SERMON SEEDS N13 FOR WEEK OF 12/12/16

SERMON SEEDS

N13 – THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 12, 2016

Sermon Seeds is a mailing of brief sermon outlines from Pastor

Jack Peters.  These outlines are meant to help other pastors and Bible

Teachers in their own preparations, as well as students of the Word in their studies.

These outlines are only "seeds".  They are not sermons ready for you to preach. Some of these outlines are new. Some have been shared in the past. This week, the outlines have all been shared previously for the Christmas Season. Feel free to improve on these outlines any way the Lord leads you.

These outlines are based on the King James Version of the Bible, but are usually a “fit” with other translations.

LUKE 2, MATTHEW 2 – THE JOYS OF CHRISTMAS

The Bible is very clear that Christmas is a time of joy.  I want us to see some Bible characters who had joy on that first Christmas.

THE ANGELS HAD THE JOY OF REVEALING – Luke 2:11-14

They told of the birth of Jesus!

THE SHEPHERDS HAD THE JOY OF RECEIVING – Luke 2:15-16, 20

The Shepherds received the Angel’s message as true and went to investigate. After visiting their Messiah, they returned joyfully.

THE SHEPHERDS AND ANNA HAD THE JOY OF REPORTING – Luke 2:17,18, 36-38

They shared with others what they had seen.

MARY HAD THE JOY OF REFLECTING

Luke 2:19 - But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

Mary thought on all the events of Christmas.

She pondered them. She remembered them.

THE WISE MEN HAD THE JOY OF RECIPROCATING – Matthew 2:1-12

Matthew 2:1-12 tells the story of the Wise Men who came to visit Jesus.

These mystical men of the east came bearing gifts.

REVELATION 4:11 – CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR JESUS

Christmas is coming, and most of us have a sizable Christmas shopping list.  I wonder how many have on their list the one who's birthday we celebrate, the Lord Jesus Christ?  He's the only one I know who celebrates a birthday and watches others get more presents than He does.

Revelation 4 is a heavenly scene showing the worship around the throne of God.  The four and twenty elders are worshipping God, and cast crowns at His feet.  As they cast these thrones they say, "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour, and power..."

Here are three things that every Christian can give the Triune God as Christmas presents.

GLORY

Glory is praise.  We can and should continually give God praise and Thanksgiving. Hebrews 13:15, Philippians 4:4, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Psalm 29:2, Psalm 100

HONOR

We honor God by:

1. Trusting Christ As Savior. Ephesians 2:8-9

2. Doing good works Ephesians 2:10

3. Using fitting speech. Ephesians 4:29

4. Avoiding the wrong places. Psalm 1:1

5. Doing all things for His glory. Colossians 3:23

6. Thinking the right thoughts. Philippians 4:8

7. Being Obedient. John 14:15

POWER

Allow God's power to work in you. Ephesians 5:18-21, Galatians 5:22-23

Allow God's power to work through you. Philippians4:13
