SERMON SEEDS N5

SERMON SEEDS

N5 – THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 26, 2016

Sermon Seeds is a weekly mailing of brief sermon outlines from Pastor Jack Peters.  These outlines are meant to help other pastors and Bible Teachers in their own preparations, as well as students of the Word in their studies.

These outlines are only "seeds".  They are not sermons ready for you to

preach.  Feel free to improve on these outlines any way the Lord leads you.

As seeds these outlines need to be:

WRAPPED (planted)  in the soil of  SUPPLICATION   (prayer).

WATERED with the rain of EDUCATION (doctrine).

WARMED by the sun of  APPLICATION AND ILLUSTRATION.

These outlines are based on the King James Version of the Bible, but are usually a “fit” with other translations.

WISELY WISE or DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS ON WISDOM

The Bible Defines Wisdom in Job 28:28.

·      The “Fear of the Lord” is wisdom.

·      To turn away from evil is understanding.

The Wise Men Found in the Bible

·      Solomon, Moses, David, and Paul are a few examples. Choose your own examples for your message or lesson.

·      According to the definition of wisdom in Job 28:28, Job was a wise man. Job 1:1

To Have Wisdom, Faith is Necessary - Proverbs 3:5-7

·      We must trust the Lord with all our hearts.

·      We must not trust our own understanding.

·      We are to acknowledge Him in all our ways.

·      He will direct our paths.

·      Faith is applied so that we have God’s wisdom, fearing the Lord, and turning away from evil.

The Worst Kind of Evil Is Unbelief - Hebrews 3:12-13, 18-19

·      Hebrews 3:12-13 warns of an evil, unbelieving heart.

·      Hebrews 3:18-19 shows that disobedience is the result of unbelief.

The Positive Example of Levi - Malachi 2:5-7

·      God had a covenant with the priests (Levi) that was a covenant of life, peace, and the fear of God.  They stood in awe of God’s name.

·      The priests taught accurately and turned people away from iniquity.

·      The people were to seek instruction from the priests.

·      Today, believers are the priests (1 Peter 2:9), and should act accordingly.

A REFUSED OFFER – Vss. 1-3 – Ahab wanted Naboth’s vineyard as a vegetable garden, but Naboth had no desire to sell the family vineyard and refused.

AN IMMATURE KING – Vs. 4 – Ahab was an adult, but acted like a child. He pouted and refused to eat.

A CONNIVING WIFE – Vss. 5-10 – Jezebel discovered what was troubling Ahab and devised a plot to falsely accuse Naboth of blaspheming God and the King.

A GRAVE INJUSTICE – Vss. 11-16 – Naboth was falsely accused and stoned to death. Ahab went to claim the vineyard after the terrible deed had been completed.

A DIVINE MESSAGE – Vss. 17-19 – Elijah was sent by God with a message to Ahab that there would be retribution for the terrible act of injustice.

A PROPHETIC CONFRONTATION – Vss. 20-26 – Ahab was confronted by Elijah and told that evil would come upon him and his household.

A LITTLE HELP FROM HIS FRIENDS – MARK 2:1-12

A man sick with palsy needed help getting to Jesus so he could be healed. He got that help and Jesus did not disappoint him.

CLOSE QUARTERS – Vss. 1-2 – Jesus was in a house and the place was full of people. Nobody more could get in.

CHOICE WORDS – Vs. 2 – Jesus preached the Word of God to the audience. There is no better source for help and salvation than the Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Mark 13:31

CONCERNED AND CONFIDENT FRIENDS – Vs. 4 – The man’s friends were so concerned and confident that Jesus would heal their friend that they tore open the roof and lowered the sick man down to Him.

COMFORTING ANNOUNCEMENT – Vss. 5-9 – Jesus first dealt with the man’s biggest problem which was his sin. There were those who were quietly accusing him of blasphemy for proclaiming forgiveness.

COMPASSIONATE HEALING – Vss. 10-12 – He realized it was apparently easier to proclaim forgiveness than to heal. Therefore, in order to prove His authority to heal, Jesus commanded the man to get up and walk. The man did so and the crowd was amazed and glorified God.

1 TIMOTHY 2:8 – HOW TO KILL A PRAYER MEETING

1 Timothy 2:8 (KJV) - I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Many Prayer Meetings and personal prayers are ineffective when believers are doing things contrary to the will of God. We must make sure that we are not “killing” prayer or prayer meeting.

UNCONFESSED SIN – HOLY HANDS

Psalm 66:18-19 (KJV) - If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.

Psalm 32:5 (KJV) - I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

UNFORGIVENESS - WITHOUT WRATH

Matthew 6:14-15 (KJV) - For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Colossians 3:13 (KJV) - Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

UNBELIEF – DOUBTING

Matthew 17:19-20 (KJV) - Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Mark 11:22-24 (KJV) - And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

TITUS 3:1-7 –  BEHAVIOR BEFORE A WATCHING WORLD

In order for Christians to have an impact on unsaved people, they must demonstrate proper behavior. Matthew 5:13-16, 1 Peter 3:15

Titus 3:1-7 gives us procedures for living a Godly life before those who are unsaved and watching our behavior.

RESPONSE – Vs. 1

We are to be submissive and obedient to those in authority over us.

RESTRAINT – Vs. 2

Our behavior should always be under control.

REMINDER – Vs. 3

We are to remember our previous behavior before we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ.

REGENERATION AND RENEWAL – Vss. 4-7

The only way we will be a good testimony to the unsaved is if we have been truly regenerated and renewed by the Spirit of God. This happens when we have been born again. John 3:3-7, John 1:12-13
