These outlines are only "seeds".  They are not sermons ready for you to preach. Some of these outlines are new. Many have been shared in the past. Feel free to improve on these outlines any way the Lord leads you.

These outlines are based on the King James Version of the Bible, but are usually a “fit” with other translations.

ISAIAH 6:1-8 – A FRESH LOOK

I love my wife, Dottie, very much.  For the almost forty-five years which we have been married, she has been my best friend. She loves me, supports me, has been all of the help-mate that God intended me to have, and has been a tremendous mother for our 3 children, David, Mark, and Donna.

Even when you love someone, it is very easy to take that person for granted.  One thing the Lord has done for me, so that I appreciate her more, is to give me a fresh look at what a great wife I have.  Occasionally Dottie has had to be away from me for a little while.  Now, if she has to be away it is because she needs to play “grandma” for one of our kid’s families.

It is then, when she is not around to talk to; when she is not there to understand; when she is not there to give me a hug or a kiss; when she is not there to cook or do laundry; when she is not there to keep the house organized (I can't even see how she keeps the kitchen table from getting cluttered); when she was not there to help with the children, although they are now grown. It was at these times when I got that fresh look of what a wonderful person God has given me.

Men, if you want to appreciate your wife more, just let her be gone for a day or two, and you'll get a "fresh look" at how wonderful your wife is!

Perhaps you have read a passage of Scripture several times.  And then, when reading it again, you have exclaimed, "WHY I NEVER SAW THAT BEFORE!" All of a sudden your eyes are opened to new truths in that passage. You have received a fresh look.

A "fresh look" is usually something which helps, encourages, and refreshes our hearts.  It is a new way of looking at something which we have never seen before.

There was prophet, a man of God in the Bible, who, one day, received a fresh look. He had been serving God, and was a saved man.  But God gave him a vision which gave this prophet that FRESH LOOK. The prophet's name is Isaiah. His story is found in Isaiah 6:1-8.

A FIRST LOOK - Before you can get a fresh look, you need a first look. The first look sees your sin and recognizes your inability to save yourself. It sees that Christ, died for you, was buried, and rose again the third. It is a look that believes on the Lord Jesus, calling on Him for salvation. Isaiah 64:6, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 10:13

A FRESH LOOK IN THE FACE OF TRAGEDY – Vs. 1 – Uzziah, a great, but flawed king had died. Sometimes our fresh look will come after a personal tragedy. When Isaiah saw the Lord, it was the Lord Jesus.

2 Chronicles 25:5, 16, 21, John 12:17-21

A FRESH LOOK AT THE GLORY OF GOD – Vss. 1-4

Psalm 104:1-2, Hebrews 13:15, Psalm 29:2

A FRESH LOOK AT SELF – Vs. 5

Luke 5:8

A FRESH LOOK AT FORGIVENESS – Vss. 6-7

1 John 1:9, Psalm 32:5

A FRESH LOOK AT RESPONSIBILITY – Vs. 8

Matthew 28:19-20, Matthew 5:14-16

EXCITING WOMEN

I began this message, preached on Mother’s Day, by asking the congregation to name some “exciting women” over the last fifty years. Then I asked them to name some exciting women throughout history.  God has made women to be exciting, and by following some of the examples of the following women, women (and men) today can be exciting as well (in  a good way).

EVE – THE FIRST WOMAN

Eve was unique. She was first. That made her exciting.

Every woman is unique. That makes her exciting! Genesis 1:17, Psalm 139:4, Genesis 2:18, 21-24

RAHAB – THE FORGIVEN WOMAN

Rahab had been a prostitute.  She was forgiven.  I believe that the scarlet cord she let down represents the shed blood of Christ, sacrificed for her sin.  Every woman can find forgiveness in Christ. That’s exciting! Joshua 2:1, 10-13, 18, 6:25

DEBORAH – THE FORTIFIED WOMAN

Deborah was a woman who was fortified with courage.  Deborah led in a time when the men of Israel were generally at a Spiritual low.  Many a courageous Christian woman has led the way when the men wouldn’t do it. Judges 4:1-4, 6-9, 14-15

RUTH – THE FAITHFUL WOMAN

Ruth would not forsake her mother in-law or her new found faith in the Lord God of Israel.  She stuck faithfully to Naomi.  She ended up being one of the ancestors of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ruth 1:16, 1 Corinthians 4:2

HANNAH – THE FERVENT WOMAN

Hannah was fervent in her prayers.  God answered.  It is exciting to think of what God has done in answer to many a godly woman’s prayers. 1 Samuel 1:12-17, 20

RUTH 1 & 3 – MOTHER IN-LAW

There have been many jokes about mother in-laws (You may tell one or two, if you feel so led.), however there have been many good and godly mother in-laws.  My mother in-law, Grace Adams, was a Christian woman who quietly worked behind the scenes to help those in need.

In the book of Ruth we meet Naomi, who was by no means perfect, but in the end, had a positive witness on her daughter in-law, Ruth.  Here is her story.

SHE WANDERED FROM GOD - 1:1-5

In a time of famine Naomi went with her husband Elimelech into the land of Moab.

They should have remained in God's land among God's people.

During this time of wandering her sons married unsaved girls, Moabites.

Her husband died, and so did her sons.

SHE WENT HOME - 1:6-7

She was returning to God's land of blessing.  She was coming back to where she once had been.

SHE WITNESSED TO HER DAUGHTERS IN-LAW - 1:8-18

This was not traditional witnessing as we would think of it.

However, she must have talked enough about the Lord, that Ruth was willing to follow her and claim her God.

Naomi actually tried to send her daughters in-law back, and Orpah did return to Moab.

Her influence on Ruth was strong enough, however, that she stayed by Naomi and went to Israel with her. She also claimed the God of Israel as her God.

Mother in-laws can have a very strong influence on their daughters and sons in-law for good or bad.

SHE WORKED TOWARDS RUTH'S WELL-BEING - 3:1-4

It was Naomi who told Ruth to approach Boaz, seeking that he redeem her as a kinsman-redeemer.

It was her advice that led to the redemption of Ruth, her marriage to Boaz, and the birth of Obed, the grandfather of David. See chapters 3-4 to fill in the details.

PROVERBS 31:10-31 – WHAT A LADY!

Note these things about the Virtuous Woman:

HER WORTH - Vss. 10-12

HER WORK - Vss. 13-24

HER WORDS - Vss. 25-26

HER WITNESSES - Vss. 27-31

Those who praise her include her husband and children.

LUKE 1:26-28 ETC. – MARY, MARY, MARY

A very common name for women in the New Testament appears to be Mary.  Three of the women named Mary have much to teach us about how to relate to our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

AN EXAMPLE OF LEANING - MARY, MOTHER OF OUR LORD

Mary leaned on God in faith.

Luke 1:26-38 - When Mary was told she would be Mother of the Messiah, she trusted God.

John 2:1-9 - When there was a need for wine at a wedding, she trusted Jesus.

AN EXAMPLE OF LOVING - MARY OF BETHANY

Luke 10:28-32 - She sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word.

John 12:1-8 - She expressed her love for the Lord by anointing the Lord's feet.

AN EXAMPLE OF LIVING - MARY MAGDELENE

Luke 8:1-3 - Here is a woman who was under the bondage of sin.

The Lord Jesus changed her life.

She went on to live for Him.  2 Corinthians 5:17, John 20:11-18

EPHESIANS 5 ETC. – T.L.C. FOR MOM

Mother's Day comes once a year. Here are ways husband and children can show Mom Tender Loving Care (T.L.C.) every day of the year.

LOVE HER Ephesians 5:25-27

LEAD HER Ephesians 5:22-24

The husband is not a dictator, but a loving leader, whose leadershipwill usually be accepted by the wife when she is treated correctly. A wise leader will include those he's leading in the decision making process.

LEARN FROM HER Proverbs 3:11-12, 26

LOOK UP TO HER 1 Peter 3:7, Ephesians 6:1-3

LOOK AFTER HER 1 Timothy 5:8

1 PETER 3:1-7 – A MARRIAGE THAT PLEASES GOD

God established marriage and approves of it. - Genesis 2:22-24, Hebrews 13:4

Christians should only marry Christians - 2 Corinthians 6:14-15

God has plans for your marriage.

Christian men will only be truly happy with Christian women that practice 1 Peter 3:1-6.

Christian women will only be truly happy with Christian men that practice 1 Peter 3:7

THE CHRISTIAN WIFE - Vss. 1-6

·        EXHORTATION - Vss. 1-2

Women are encouraged to live in submission to their husbands.

This does not mean that the man is superior to his wife, but for the sake of God's order, she is to submit to her husband's leadership.

Husbands need to remember, however, that they are to help the wives to be submissive by loving them as Christ loved the church. Ephesians 5:25

Women are also encouraged to win their husbands to a Godly obedience by their quiet, chaste conversation.

·        EXPLANATION - Vss. 3-4

Peter is not saying that is wrong to fix one's hair, or to wear jewelry or nice clothes.  He is saying that true adornment is that of a "meek and quiet spirit".

·        EXAMPLE - Vss. 5-6

Sara, and other Godly women of the Bible (Ruth, Esther, Mary) serve as positive examples for the women of today.

THE CHRISTIAN HUSBAND - Vs. 7

·        REQUIREMENTS

The husband is to understand his wife.

The husband is to honor his wife.

·        REASONS

The wife is considered to be the "weaker vessel".

The wife is a "joint heir" of the "grace of life".

A husband's prayers are hindered when he doesn't treat his wife properly.
