SERMON SEEDS P5 FOR WEEK OF 2/19/17

SERMON SEEDS

P5 – THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 19, 2017

YES, IT’S BEEN AWHILE!

SORRY ABOUT THAT!

Sermon Seeds is a mailing of brief sermon outlines from Pastor

Jack Peters.  These outlines are meant to help other pastors and Bible

Teachers in their own preparations, as well as students of the Word in their studies.

These outlines are only "seeds".  They are not sermons ready for you to

preach. Some of these outlines are new. Some have been shared in the past. This week, the outlines have all been shared previously for the Christmas Season.         Feel free to improve on these outlines any way the Lord leads you.

These outlines are based on the King James Version of the Bible, but are usually a “fit” with other translations.

Psalm 100:3, 5 – WHY WORSHIP?

WORSHIP AS A WAY OF LIFE #1

“Worship is the submission of all of our nature to God.

It is the quickening of the conscience by his holiness;

the nourishment of mind with his truth;

the purifying of imagination by his beauty;

the opening of the heart to his love;

the surrender of will to his purpose—

all this gathered up in adoration, the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable.”

William Temple

Psalm 29:2, Psalm 100:1-2, Psalm 30:4, Psalm 150, Ephesians 5:18-19

WE SHOULD WORSHIP GOD BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS

Psalm 100:3 - Know ye that the LORD, He is God;

Revelation 1:8

WE SHOULD WORSHIP GOD BECAUSE OF WHAT HE HAS DONE

It is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves;

Psalm 135:6, Revelation 4:11, Psalm 139:14, Romans 1:20 -

WE SHOULD WORSHIP GOD BECAUSE OF WHO WE ARE

…we are His people

John 3:3-7, John 1:12-13, Romans 8:15-17

…and the sheep of His pasture.

John 10:27-30, Psalm 23

WE SHOULD WORSHIP GOD BECAUSE OF WHAT HE IS LIKE

Psalm 100:5 (KJV) - For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Mercy = love

Truth = faithfulness

Nehemiah 10:28-39 – COUNTING THE COST

Nehemiah 10:28-39

COUNTING THE COST

Introduction - Luke 14:28-30

The people in Nehemiah's day considered what it would cost in order to please God.

1. THE COST OF SUBMISSION Vss. 28-29

They would "...walk in God's law..."

2. THE COST OF SEPARATION Vss. 28-30

They promised to separate themselves to walking in God's law and not marrying off their daughters to heathen husbands (2 Corinthians 6:14).

3. THE COST CONCERNING THE SABBATH Vs. 31

The Sabbath Day would not be a day of normal business.

The implication is that the Sabbath would be set apart for God.

Today we do not celebrate the Sabbath, but we do celebrate the Lord's Day (Sunday).

Our main responsibility on the Lord's Day is to worship, learn and fellowship with God's People. Hebrews 10:24-25

4. THE COST OF SHARING Vss. 32-39

The people committed themselves to supporting God's work and God's workers.

1 Corinthians 16:1-2, 2 Corinthians 8-9

LUKE 5:27-32 – AN UPOPULAR ACTION

Many of the things that Jesus did where not popular, especially with the

religious leaders. Jesus did what was right and didn't worry if what he did was popular.

A SINNER RECRUITED - Vss. 27-28

Jesus is always calling sinners to trust Him and follow Him. Matthew

11:28-30

Matthew (called Levi here), a tax collector, was recruited by the Lord

Jesus.

A SAVIOR'S RECEPTION - Vs. 29

A reception was held for the Lord Jesus.

Matthew wanted others to meet his new master.

After being saved, we should want to introduce our friends to our Savior.

A SCATHING REACTION - Vs. 30

The religious people were upset with Jesus because He associated with

sinners.

A STARTLING REMARK - Vss. 31-32
