SERMON SEEDS

P6 – THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 27, 2017

Sermon Seeds is a mailing of brief sermon outlines from Pastor

Jack Peters.  These outlines are meant to help other pastors and Bible

Teachers in their own preparations, as well as students of the Word in their studies.

These outlines are only "seeds".  They are not sermons ready for you to

preach. Some of these outlines are new. Most have been shared in the past.

Feel free to improve on these outlines any way the Lord leads you.

These outlines are based on the King James Version of the Bible, but are usually a “fit” with other translations.

EPHESIANS 1:3-6 – RICHES FROM FATHER

EPHESIANS – KNOWING AND GROWING #3

Ephesians 1:3-14 is one sentence in Greek.  In it we see the riches we have from the God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Here are the riches from the hand of God the Father.

THE FATHER'S PRESENT TO US - Vs. 3

·      We are blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

·      It is important to note that this is a happy verse, and that the verses to follow are happy verses!  These verses are written to encourage and assure us. They are not written to confuse, frustrate, or depress us!

·      It is important to note that whatever we need Spiritually, we have it in Christ!

THE FATHER'S PLANS FOR US - Vss. 4-5

·      This is the doctrine of election. God chose us before the foundation of the world. Every believer is chosen in Christ in eternity past.

·      H.A. Ironside – “Mr. Spurgeon said, ‘God certainly must have chosen me before I came into this world or He never would have done so afterward.’”

·      Because of our totally depraved nature, we have no acceptable righteousness in ourselves. Romans 3:10-18, Isaiah 64:6

·      Christ paid the price of redemption for our sins. Isaiah 53:4-6, Romans 5:6-9

·      One must believe in Christ to be saved. John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9

·      Only those whom the Spirit convicts and draws will come to Christ.  John 6:44, John 16:8-11

·      Both election and man’s free will to choose exist in the Scriptures. Romans 9:6-16, 30-32

·      H.A. Ironside – “Every one who is saved will be in heaven because he was chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world, and yet every man who is saved will be there because as a poor guilty sinner he put his personal trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. You may say, ‘I can’t harmonize this.’ You do not need to do so; just believe it and go on your way rejoicing.”

Both quotes H.A. Ironside, In the Heavenlies, (Neptune N.J., Loizeaux Brothers, 1937) pp. 25, 31-32

·      Consider Lydia as an example. Acts 16:14-15

·      We are chosen to be holy and without blame. God has “set us apart” for all eternity. He expects us to strive to live holy lives now. 1 Peter 1:15-16

·      Because God proclaims us as blameless in Christ, we need not fear condemnation.                 Romans 8:1, 31-34

·      Vs. 5 – In love, God predestinated us, or “planned ahead” for our adoption.                   Galatians 4:4-6

THE FATHER'S POSITION TOWARDS US - Vs. 6

·      We are accepted in the beloved, who is Christ!

·      To be accepted in the beloved is to be blessed in the beloved.

PHILIPPIANS 2:12-16 – AN INFLUENTIAL LIFE

PHILIPPIANS – PARTNERSHIP IN THE GOSPEL #9

Every one of us has been influenced by our family and friends either for good or bad.  I see some of the same good qualities in my parents alive and well in me.  I see some of the bad qualities of my parents alive and well in me.

We should want to be a positive influence for our Lord Jesus Christ through our words and deeds. In our text Paul shows us how to be a positive influence to both saved and unsaved people.

EXERCISE - work out your own salvation - Vss. 12-13

Notice that Paul does not say "work for" but "work out". It carries the idea of seeing something through to its conclusion.  Paul is talking about practical, holy, living.

EXTRACTION - no murmurings or disputings - Vs. 14

EXCELLENCE - blameless, harmless, without rebuke - Vs. 15

EXPOSURE - shining as lights in this world - Vs. 15

EXPLANATION - holding forth the word of life - Vs. 16
