SERMON SEEDS P8 FOR WEEK OF 3/13/17

SERMON SEEDS

P8 – THE WEEK OF MARCH 13, 2017

Sermon Seeds is a mailing of brief sermon outlines from Pastor Jack Peters.  These outlines are meant to help other pastors and Bible Teachers in their own preparations, as well as students of the Word in their studies. These outlines are only "seeds".  They are not sermons ready for you to preach. Some of these outlines are new. Some have been shared in the past.  Feel free to improve on these outlines any way the Lord leads you.

These outlines are based on the King James Version of the Bible, but are usually a “fit” with other translations.

1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-34 – WORSHIP AT THE TABLE

Worship as a Way of Life #4

I introduced this sermon with the illustration found at ttps://bible.org/illustration/gratitude-lunch

WORSHIP AT THE TABLE IS THOUGHTFUL - Vss. 23-25

Psalm 143:5, Philippians 4:8, Isaiah 53:3-6, Romans 5:9, Romans 5:1

We reflect on Christ’s body broken and His blood shed for us.

WORSHIP AT THE TABLE IS A TESTIMONY – Vs. 26

John 3:36, Philippians 3:20

Every time we receive the Lord’s Supper we are proclaiming our faith in Christ to others. We must make sure that we are born-again before we participate.

WORSHIP AT THE TABLE IS TRANSPARENT – Vss. 27-28

Isaiah 64:6, Psalm 32:5, 1 John 1:9

We are all unworthy as sinners to participate in the Lord’s table. When we eat in an unworthy manner, we either have unconfessed sin in our lives, or are taking the remembrance lightly with thoughts that are on other things instead of on the things of Christ.

We are to examine ourselves before we take of the bread and the cup.

WORSHIP AT THE TABLE IS A TRIAL – Vss. 29-34

Either we will judge ourselves and confess our sins or God will judge them if we refuse to judge ourselves.

MARK 1:35-39 – IN TOUCH!

I have a cell phone. I talk on the cell phone. I text on the cell phone.

I have a computer. I use email on the computer. I use Facebook on the computer.

I do all these things to keep in touch with people.

More important than keeping in touch with those we know and love is keeping in touch with God.  Our Lord Jesus Christ gives us a needed example in this passage. He kept close to His Heavenly Father. He was in touch!

PRIVATE CONNECTION - Vs. 35

·      Jesus was often busy, but Jesus did not neglect his time with God. He did not let an active day and night before (Mark 1:23-34) keep Him from fellowship with God in the morning.

·      Notice that he got up early to be in touch with God.

·      Also notice that he went to a private place.

·      Let us remember that the morning is an important time for prayer. Psalm 5.

·      Let us also remember that as much as possible, we should spend time alone in prayer. Matthew 6:5-6

PERSONAL DIRECTION - Vss. 36-38

·      Peter wanted Jesus to return to minister to the same crowds from the day before.

·      Jesus had spent time with God the Father. He had his directions from God. He moved on.

·      There will always be people who will want to tell us how to spend our time.

·      Remember that time spent with God will help us know what God wants us to do with our time. Psalm 32:8, Ephesians 5:15-17, James 1:5-8

PUBLIC MANIFESTATION - Vs. 39

·      Jesus’ public ministry was proof that He had been with God in private.

·      He preached publicly, cast out demons, and healed the sick.

·      Our powers to preach, teach, witness, live Godly lives, and serve will only be present if we abide in Him.  We must be in touch! John 15:1-8

PHILIPPIANS 3:1-3 – TIMELY ADVICE!

PHILIPPIANS – PARTNERSHIP IN THE GOSPEL #11

REJOICE – Vs. 1

Actually the word translated “finally” could also be translated “furthermore”, or “so then”. Why rejoice?

·      Paul, Timothy, and Epaphroditus all made sacrifices.   Philippians 2:19-30

·      Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice.  John 10:15-18

·      We are assured our sins are forgiven.  1Peter 1:18-19

·      The Lord made salvation simple.  1 John 5:11-12

·      We have an ultimate home.  John 14:1-3

·      Jesus never leaves or forsakes us.  Matthew 18:19-20

·      Jesus intercedes for us.  Hebrews 4:14-16

·      Jesus is coming again.  1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

LOOK OUT – Vs. 2

Ever since there’s been the Gospel, there have been people who pervert, change, and misrepresent the Gospel.

The Dogs – Not your household pets

The Evil Workers – They were adding to the Gospel.  Galatians 1:6-9

Mutilate the flesh – Taken a sign of faith and made it into a work – Genesis 17:9-14, Romans 2:28-29

KNOW THAT – Vs. 3

We are the Circumcision – Of the Heart – Deuteronomy 10:16, Ezekiel 36:26-27

·      We worship God in the Spirit.  John 16:14  “He will glorify me”

·      We rejoice in Christ Jesus.  Revelation 5:12-13

·      We have no confidence in the flesh.  Ephesians 2:8-9
