JOHN 6:47-48 – MEET ALL YOU NEED
MEETING JESUS IN THE GOSPEL OF JOHN #13
Jesus Christ is made to me,
All I need , all I need,
He alone is all my plea,
He is all I need.
Wisdom, righteousness and pow'r,
holiness this very hour;
My redemption full and free,
He is all I need.
He redeemed me when He died,
All I need, all I need,
I am with Him crucified,
He is all I need.
He's the treasure of my heart,
All I need, all I need,
He has cleansed and made me whole,
He is all I need.
Jesus is my all in all,
All I need, all I need,
While He keeps, I cannot fall,
He is all I need.
Wisdom, righteousness and pow'r,
holiness this very hour;
My redemption full and free,
He is all I need.
This hymn, written by Charles P. Jones, beautifully sums up the words of our Lord Jesus Christ in John 6:47-48.
We are meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John, and this week I want you to meet all you need!
WE HAVE THE SOURCE OF AUTHORITY
WE HAVE THE SIMPLICITY OF SALVATION
WE HAVE THE STAPLE OF LIFE
BACKGROUND - John 6 contains John's account of the feeding of the 5,000. This miracle is reported in all four Gospels. It is John, however, who tells us of the little boy that Andrew found. He was the owner of a lunch of five loaves and 2 fishes that Jesus used to work the miracle. We met Jesus as the Insightful Leader.
After the miracle, some wanted to make Jesus a king. He dispatched the disciples by boat, dismissed the crowd and went up into a mountain to pray.
The disciples got caught in a storm on the lake. Jesus came to them, walking on the water. When they received him into the boat, they were immediately on the other side of the lake. We met the Master of Stormy Weather
The next day some of the crowd came looking for Jesus. They took boats and found him on the other side of the lake. When they arrived on the other side of the lake, Jesus gave an insight and a word of advice. John 6:26-27
Jesus told them that they were seeking him for the wrong motives and that they needed not to be looking for physical food, but spiritual food that endures unto eternal life.
It is in this context that Jesus presents himself as the Bread of Life. John 6:47-48
So then, let’s meet All you Need.
WE HAVE THE SOURCE OF AUTHORITY
Verily, verily, I say unto you…
The words "Verily, verily" are literally the words "Amen, Amen" in the original language. I think of Jesus saying, "surely, surely".
Jesus is serious when he uses these words and He is pointing out to his listeners that whatever He is saying is absolute truth. His teaching style was different because He spoke with authority. Matthew 7:28-29
Why could Jesus speak with such authority?
Jesus can speak with such authority because of who He is.
Isaiah 9:6
WE HAVE THE SIMPLICITY OF SALVATION
…He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
Some have made salvation as complex as the tax code.
Jesus makes it very simple. Believe on Him for salvation.
Ephesians 2:8-9, 2 Corinthians 5:17
If you have not availed yourself of God's simple plan of salvation, I invite you to do so this morning. It will change your life.
If you have believed on Christ, may I encourage you that this simple message of salvation that changed your life can change the lives of your friends and loved ones? Just tell them the simple plan of salvation. Don’t sell short God’s power to save.
WE HAVE THE STAPLE OF LIFE
John 6:48 - I am that bread of life.
Staples are the basic groceries you need. You know, bread, milk, flour, butter or margarine, salt, pepper, ice cream. J
Probably the most common staple throughout the world is bread. Jesus tells us in our text that he is "that bread of life."
He's the staple. He's the basic. He's needed.
John 3:36, 1 John 5:12 – For eternity
John 10:10, John 15:1-7, Psalm 23 – For today
