ROLE MODEL FOR THE NEW YEAR

Luke 2:40-52 – IT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS #3

It’s time to make New Year’s resolutions. Here are some funny ones from Wiki.

  • I resolve to be just a little bit nicer to people who do exactly what I want.
  • My New Year’s resolution is to stop hanging with people who ask me about my New Year’s resolution.
  • Buy new clothes big enough to account for next year’s holidays.
  • My Goal for 2022 is to accomplish the goals of 2021 which I should have done in 2020 because I promised them in 2019 and planned them in 2018.
  • Most common New Year’s resolution: Get in Shape. I choose round shape. Funny New Year's Resolutions 2022 - New Year Wiki

The trouble with New Year’s resolutions, is that almost always we don’t keep them! We are good for a while and then let them slip.

Instead of a New Year’s resolution this year, I suggest that we all strive to do something we all know that we should do. Let’s strive to be like Jesus and use Him as our role model.

1 John 3:2-3, 1 John 2:6

Vs. 40 – Luke tells us that Jesus grew up.  He increased in the important areas of spirit, wisdom and grace.  I believe that the Lord Jesus became more and more aware in his human mind, just who He was and where He came from.

his childhood. Only Luke records this event.

I have entitled this message, Role Model for the New Year because in this passage, Jesus is the role model for how we should behave any year.  Growing up or maturing is something we should never stop doing until we leave this life or when Jesus comes for us and gives us our new resurrection bodies. Philippians 3:12-14

Let’s see how Jesus grew up and try to follow His example.

  • Vs. 41 – Proverbs 22:6
  • Vs. 42 – In a year Jesus would become a “son of the commandment”, or “son of the law or covenant”
  • Vs. 49 – Jesus whole goal was to please his Father above all things.

Psalms 40:7-8, Hebrews 10:7, John 4:34, Matthew 26:37-39

  • We can call God, Father when we have a personal relationship with Him John 1:12-13, Romans 8:15-16
  • If we are God’s children, shouldn’t be “about our Father’s House”? 1 Corinthians 6:19-20,

Psalm 27:4-8, Galatians 2:20

HE PRACTICED SUBMISSION – Luke 2:51

  • Jesus continued to do what He was told.
  • But He also submitted to those who were in authority over Him. Matthew 17:24-27, 22:15-22
  • We must follow His example. Romans 12:1,

Titus 3:1-2, Ephesians 5:18, 21, 22, 25,

Hebrews 13:17

HE PROCEEDED TO MATURE – LUKE 2:52

  • HE GREW INTELLECTUALLY – Wisdom

Job 28:28, Proverbs 4:7

  • HE GREW PHYSICALLY – Stature

1 Corinthians 9:24-27

  • HE GREW SPIRITUALLY – Favor with God

Philippians 3:10, 2 Peter 3:18

  • HE GREW SOCIALLY – Favor with man

John 15:12, Matthew 5:13-16, 1 Peter 3:15
