1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-24 – THE DAILY WALK
Real Church in a Real World #10 of 10
Most of us have dreamed of greatness. We might have dreamed of being a great musician, a great scholar, a great dancer, a great diplomat, a great teacher, a great athlete, a great computer programmer, a great fashion designer, actor, a great hunter of fisherman, a great theologian, or a great pastor, missionary, or evangelist. Some of you may have dreamed of being the super husband, wife, or parent.
One dream I had as a kid was to be a major league baseball player for the New York Yankees. Perhaps I would be the next Mickey Mantle or Whitey Ford. Never made it. I had no ability and I never practiced. I didn’t the work to achieve that goal.
Hopefully there’s been a special day in your life when you trusted the Lord Jesus as your Savior. – Explain
The day you were saved, the Holy Spirit of God the Father and of the Lord Jesus came into your life and changed you forever. 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Romans 8:9-10, 1 John 1:1-3, Philippians 3:10. John 10:10, 1 John 2:6
God has placed in us the ability to live a life of Christ-likeness now. Why have you and I usually failed?
If we are going to fulfill the Great Commission as a church, we must learn and work together to develop our own personal walk with God. The Great Adventure
1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 is a conclusion to Paul’s first letter to the church is Thessalonica. this passage Paul shows us a pattern of behavior that will insure that we as Christians walk with God.
Hebrews 13:14-15, James 1:2-4
1 Thessalonians 5:17 - Pray without ceasing.
Matthew 7:7-11, Philippians 4:6-7, 1 Peter 4:7, Luke 11:13
1 Thessalonians 5:18 - In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Romans 8:28
1 Thessalonians 5:19 – Quench not the Spirit.
Hebrews 3:18-19, Ephesians 4:30-32
1 Thessalonians 5:20 – Despise not prophesyings.
2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21
1 Thessalonians 5:21 – Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 - Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 - And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

JUDGES 2:11-23 – THE STORY OF THE JUDGES
Here is a good summary of the conditions in Israel during the time of the Judges, and why God sent the Judges.
ISRAEL'S APOSTASY - Vss. 11-13
GOD'S ANGER - Vss. 14-15
GOD'S ASSISTANCE - Vss. 16-18
God was faithful to send Judges to deliver Israel out of her predicaments.
ISRAEL'S ABANDONMENT - Vs. 19
In spite of the work of the Judges, when a judge died, Israel returned to apostasy.
GOD'S ANSWER - Vss. 20-23 God allowed the nations to remain in the land as a test for Israel.

2 SAMUEL 12:14-23 – DEALING WITH GOD’S WILL
We must always remember that God's will is good, acceptable and perfect (Romans 12:2).
There are times, however, when we find God's will hard to deal with. We have a hard time dealing with God's will because we are human, because we are sinners, because are limited in our understanding, and because we do not always trust God the way we should.
David had sinned against God and was being judged by God for his sinful actions against Bath-sheba and Uriah (2 Samuel 11 – See Sermon Seeds Q2 – “It’s So Easy”). He was confronted by the prophet Nathan concerning his sin (2 Samuel 12).
GOD'S WILL ANNOUNCED - Vs. 14
As a result of David's sin, the child would die.
GOD'S WILL APPEALED - Vss. 15-17
It was not wrong for David to intercede for the child or to desire that God would change His mind. It is not wrong for us to pray and ask God for a positive answer to our concerns.
GOD'S WILL ACCEPTED - Vss. 18-23
David accepted the will of God. He was not angry with God. He realized that one day he would see his child again. We must follow David's example. God's will is to be accepted, even if we wish He had done things differently. He knows best!

Psalm 119:165 – WHAT A PROMISE!
"Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them."
People are looking for peace today! The trouble is that they usually look in the wrong places. They look for peace through people or circumstances or money. They don't look to the Lord! Here is a promise for peace that God will keep if we meet His criteria.
GREAT COMPOSURE (or COMFORT or CONSOLATION)
God promises peace. Of course, peace is found in the Lord Jesus Christ! John 14:27, John 16:33, Matthew 11:28
In Isaiah 9:6 He is called "the Prince of Peace".
GREAT CONDITION
The condition for peace is that a person love God's Word.
One does not love God's Word unless less they know and obey God's Word. Psalm 119:97, Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:1-3
When we obey God's Word we will:
1. Know Christ as Savior - Romans 5:1
2. Keep our eyes focused on Christ - Isaiah 26:3
3. Commit our needs to God in prayer - Philippians 4:6-7
GREAT CONFIDENCE
The one who loves God's Word will be a person of confidence. "Nothing shall offend them." Proverbs 29:25, Proverbs 3:6-6, Isaiah 40:31
____________
JEREMIAH 35 – MODEL OF OBEDIENCE
The Rechabites in this chapter show us some very good lessons about obedience which we should apply to our own lives.
OBEDIENCE IS TESTED Vss. 1-5
Just as the Rechabites had their obedience tested, we too will have our obedience to God tested.
OBEDIENCE SHOULD BE TENACIOUS Vss. 6-11
Will we be as obedient to God as these people were to the commandment of an ancestor? They were firm in their stand of obedience.
OBEDIENCE WILL BE A TESTIMONY Vss. 12-17
Their obedience was a testimony to Israel. Our obedience will be a testimony to saved and unsaved people.
OBEDIENCE WILL BE TRIUMPHANT Vss. 18-19
God will reward the Rechabites. God will award the obedient Christian at the Judgment Seat Of Christ. 1 Corinthians 4:1-5, 2 Corinthians 5:10

LUKE 5:1-11 – LIKE PETER’S BOAT
During his ministry,
In Luke 5:1-11Peter’s boat was the scene of the miracle of a miraculous catch of fish.
This was not the first time that Peter had met Jesus.
There are at least two other previous instances of Peter meeting Jesus.
Peter’s brother, Andrew, was a disciple of John the Baptist.
Andrew was present when John the Baptist identified Jesus as “the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world”. John 1:40-42
The original call of Jesus to Peter, Andrew, James and John as disciples is mentioned in Matthew 4:18-20.
The disciples appeared to follow Jesus on a part time basis, and then went back to their fishing. It is at the end of a long night of fishing that Peter’s boat comes into focus, and we see some lessons we should learn from Peter’s boat.
LIKE PETER’S BOAT, YOUR HEART SHOULD BE A CHAPEL
Vss. 1-3 – Jesus was teaching by the Sea of Galilee.
The crowds were very large and pressing upon him.
Nearby Peter, Andrew, James, and John were doing what fishermen did after a long night of fishing. They were washing out their nets and then setting them into the sun to dry.
Jesus requested use of the boat. So Peter thrust out a little from land and Jesus sat in the boat and taught the people. The hills surrounding the lake helped make the area a natural amphitheatre.
The minute Jesus entered that boat it was not the same.
Jesus entered the boat and the boat became a chapel.
It was the residence, at least temporarily of God the Son.
If you have trusted Jesus as your Savior, the minute Jesus entered your life when you were saved you were no longer the same. 2 Corinthians 5:17
You became new in many ways when you trusted Jesus as Savior. A key way is that your heart became a chapel or a temple. It is a place where God dwells. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Because God dwells inside of you your body should be a place where He is worshipped. God should receive your reverence, your praise, your thanksgiving and your prayers. Psalm 89:1, 7, Psalm 103:1-2, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
When someone is present it is rude to ignore him.
How rude are we to God when we, as Christians, go about ignoring His presence hours or days on end? You can be assured that when Jesus was in the boat, Peter did not ignore him!
Our hearts are His chapel! Oh how much happier we would be if we practiced what we sing:
Jesus invites you to fellowship with Him and to reap great results. John 15:4-7
LIKE PETER’S BOAT, YOUR HEART SHOULD BE A CLASSROOM
Vs. 3 – Jesus taught the people.
The Teacher was present. Class was in session!
Did you know that like Peter’s boat, you have a resident teacher? It is God, the Holy Spirit.
John 16:12-14
How does God teach us?
First of all, He uses his Word. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Secondly God teaches us through the preaching of His Word. 2 Timothy 4:2
Thirdly God uses us to teach each other.
We teach others when we share Scripture.
We teach others when we share our experiences.
Finally, God teaches us through experience.
We learn to trust God and mature through our trials.
We learn to do what is right when God chooses to correct us for what we have done wrong.
Have you ever tried to teach someone who didn’t want to learn? It’s almost impossible, isn’t it? We, as Christians should be those who want to learn. 2 Timothy 2:15,
That doesn’t mean that you will be a pastor if you learn, but you will mature so that you will be useable!
YOUR LIFE SHOULD HAVE A CAPTAIN
Vs. 4 – Did you ever have someone who knew nothing about your job, tell you how to do your job? Recently I had a retired steel worker tell me how easy my job is!
Peter would have thought that Jesus knew nothing about fishing. Jesus was a carpenter.
Jesus wanted Peter to go fishing when they had labored all night and caught nothing. The fish were not around.
Jesus wanted Peter to go fishing in the broad daylight, when nighttime would have been better. Jesus wanted Peter to fish out in the deep, when it was customary to fish along the shore.
Peter would have had to load the big, heavy, wet nets back into his boat and go out for fish after having fished all night. He was probably very tired, if not exhausted!
Luke 5:5 - Did Peter feel like fishing? No.
Did Peter think it was wise to fish? No.
Was Peter afraid at being laughed at for fishing at such an unusual time and place? Perhaps he was! Did Peter understand what Jesus was doing? No.
Why did Peter concede to do it?
The moment that Jesus entered Peter’s boat, Jesus became captain.
Peter recognized him as Master and did as He was told.
My friend Jesus wants to be more than a guest in your life.
He wants to be Lord of your life!
He wants to call the shots!
He wants to tell you what to do.
There had to be someone who would lead and make the decisions. Democracy did not work. He was kind, but he was in charge.
My friend Jesus wants to run a benevolent dictatorship in your life.
He wants to tell you what to do and when to do it.
He wants your obedience.
He wants your submission to His authority.
He wants to be boss.
He wants to be “Lord of all”. And, as someone has said, “If Jesus isn’t Lord of all, He isn’t Lord at all!”
John 13:13 - Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
Romans 12:1 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
If Jesus is the captain of your ship your life is to be a living sacrifice. You should be able to say, “Lord Jesus, I’ll go where you want me to go. I’ll do what you want me to do. I’ll be what you want me to be.”
LIKE PETER’S BOAT, YOUR LIFE SHOULD BE A CHANNEL
Vss. 6-7 – Peter’s boat became the channel or means of a great miracle.
Vs. 8 – Peter was amazed and convicted. He realized what a sinner he was and that he did not deserve to be in Jesus’ presence.
When God works miracles in our lives, we will be equally astonished and will realize how much we don’t deserve them. For we, too are sinful men and women.
Vs. 9-10 – Jesus now tells Peter something phenomenal and wonderful! From that point on Peter would not fish for fish.
He would fish for men.
And I understand that the wording here means to catch them alive. It is like capturing animals for a circus or zoo. Peter, Andrew, James and John would all be those who would become the channel through which God would work to bring thousands of men and women to Himself and to lead them to life in His Son!
And so it is today. We are God’s channels who are to bring men and women to Jesus. We are the ones who are to tell the Good News of Jesus’ death burial and resurrection. Mark 16:15
YOUR LIFE SHOULD BE A CAST-OFF
Luke 5:11 - And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
The boat was left behind. They cast the boat away! Peter and the others left all to follow Jesus.
In their case the fishing boats needed to be forsaken.
You may not have to leave your job in order to follow Jesus.
But your life is to be such that you are willing to leave behind whatever is necessary in order to follow Jesus. Luke 9:23-24 Luke 14:26-27
If anything or anybody is more important to you than doing the will of the Lord Jesus, than it needs to be cast off just like Peter’s boat.

GLORIOUS MESSENGER – REVELATION 1:1-8
THE BACK OF THE BOOK #2 (REVELATION)
This is a series of complete study notes. If you take a premillennial, pretribulational, position in prophecies, these notes may be helpful. I have shared these previously.
WHAT MAKES THE BOOK OF REVELATION REMARKABLE?
According to Warren Wiersbe, the Book of Revelation is a remarkable book because:
We continue our study in the “Back of the Book” by seeing the majesty of and hearing the message of our Lord Jesus Christ in ways John had perhaps never seen or heard Him before. This section helps us to understand the attributes of our wonderful Lord and Savior.
ATTENTION AROUSED – Vss. 9-11
ATTRIBUTES DISPLAYED – Vss. 12-16
“White hair in Scripture is symbolic of purity in character, dignity of age, authority as judge, and eternality.” David Levy, Revelation: Hearing the Last Word, (Bellmawr, NJ, The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry Inc., 1999), pp. 14-15
ASSURANCE GIVEN – Vss. 17-18, 20
ASSIGNMENT MADE – Vs. 19
