When God Says No
2 Samuel, Chapter 7

Pastor Deane Boyd

Sometimes we learn more when God responds to our plan with a clear “no” than when He says “yes.” We should look for gracious blessings in the Lord’s refusals.

David’s Plan to Build   7:1-3

  • Prompted by his love for the Lord  - Psalm 116:1-7
  • Encouraged by his friend, the prophet Nathan

God’s Different Plan   7:4-17

  • God quickly instructed Nathan, “Tell David NO”
  • God’s refusal came with gracious provisions and promises

David’s Response   7:18-29

  • Wait quietly before the Lord  7:18; Psalm 46:10
  • Submit to the will of the Lord  7:20-21; 1 Chron. 29:1-3
  • Remember what the Lord has already done  7:21, 23-24
  • Anticipate what the Lord will yet do  7:27;

1 Chronicles 22:6-11

  • Worship the Lord  7:22, 28-29

“For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares
the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give
you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NASB
