SERMON SEEDS ARCHIVES

1&2 TIMOTHY

Through no fault of our own, about 5 years of Sermon Seeds was deleted from the Website of the First Baptist Church.

We decided that it was time to begin archiving them in a different way.

Please be patient as we gradually archive these outlines.

1 TIMOTHY 1:1-7 – ACCURACY IS IMPORTANT

ACCURACY DEMANDED – Vss. 1-3

Timothy stayed in Ephesus after Paul left. His job was to make sure that truth was taught and practiced accurately.  As church members, we should be checking to see if the teaching we are receiving matches the teaching of the Word of God.  Acts 17:10-12

ACCURACY DILUTED – Vs. 4

There is some false teaching that dilutes and weakens the truth of God’s Word.

ACCURACY DEVOTED – Vs. 5

Accuracy is devoted to “charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:” Matthew 22:37-40, John 13:34-35

ACCURACY DIVERTED – Vss. 6-7

False teachers were diverting the truth and didn’t know what they were talking about.

2 TIMOTHY 1:1-8 – A SPIRITUAL PARENT (OR, FATHER)

Many Christians end up being Spiritual parents to younger Christians. We may

have led them to the Lord, and/or discipled them. How can we be good

Spiritual parents to our own children and our children in the faith? We can

follow Paul's example, as he was a Spiritual parent to Timothy.

A FATHER'S MIND - Vss. 1-2 - Wishing grace, mercy, and peace for his children.

A FATHER'S MINISTRY - Vss. 3-4 - Praying for the child and desiring to spend

time with the child.

A FATHER'S MEMORY - Vs. 5-6 - A good parent reminds his child of positive

things which have happened in the past and that he should continue to

progress.

A FATHER'S MESSAGE - Vss. 7-8 - A father looks to strengthen and encourage a

child. Paul's message to Timothy encouraged him to stand firm for the Lord.

We should encourage our Spiritual children in the same way.

2 TIMOTHY 2:3-4 – A GOOD SOLDIER

ENDURANCE - "Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ."

ENTANGLEMENTS - "No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of [this] life;"

ENLISTMENT - "...that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."

If you would like another point, consider:

ENABLEMENT - Ephesians 6:13-18

God will only call on us to do those things that He will enable us to do.

2 TIMOTHY 4:2 – THE TYPE OF PREACHING GOD LIKES

Everybody has an opinion of what makes a sermon good or bad.

When someone says "That was a great message.", or that was a terrible message, he is usually giving a subjective opinion.

God tells us in this verse what kind of preaching He likes.  This is the type of sermon a preacher should strive to preach. This is the type of sermon for which God's people should be thankful when they hear it.

God likes the preaching when:

THE WORD OF GOD IS PROCLAIMED - "Preach the word."

THE MESSENGER IS PREPARED - "Be instant in season, out of season."

THE AUDIENCE IS PROVOKED - "Reprove, rebuke, exhort."

THE WORD IS PRESENTED PATIENTLY AND CLEARLY - "With all longsuffering and doctrine."
