DescriptionMATTHEW 21:1-16 – IMPACT UPON ARRIVAL
- On March 30, 1973, 50 years ago this past Thursday, our first born, David John Peters arrived.
- There was an immediate impact upon his arrival.
- Of course, there was joy!
- There were visits from the relatives!
- Sleep patterns changed.
- Meal patterns changed.
- Responsibilities changed.
- Budget requirements changed.
- The impact of Dave arriving and then his siblings, Mark and Donna, is still felt by us today! And, we’re glad!
- When Jesus officially arrived in Jerusalem to present Himself to Israel as their Messiah, there was impact!
- When Jesus arrives in our lives, there will also be impact!
- Let’s look at the first Palm Sunday!
PREPARATION – Vss. 1-5
- Vss. 1-3 – Jesus knew what He was doing. He still does.
- Whether prearranged or not, acquiring the colt was in the plan, and the fact that the Lord had need. Was enough.
- Vss. 4-5 – In order for this to be official, Jesus had to arrive this way. Zechariah 9:9
- It is also likely that a second prophecy was being fulfilled. Daniel 9:25-26 – 483 years – Messiah arrives and is cut off.
PRESENTATION – Vss. 6-11
- Vs. 6 – The Disciples obeyed. Let’s imitate them!
- Vs. 9 – Hosanna – “Save us now!” Psalm 118:25-26
- Vss. 9-11 – A grand welcome, but true disciples were the only sincere ones. Isaiah 29:13 – That’s true today too!
PURIFICATION – Vss. 12-13
- Vs. 12 – Mark made an important observation. Mark 11:11 – As King, Jesus has the right to evaluate what is his and to take action!
- Vs. 13 - Christ-followers - let him clean house! Isaiah 56:7
PARTICIPATION – Vss. 14-16
- Vs. 14 – The blind and lame came for healing.
- Vs. 15 – The leaders were indignant.
- Vs. 16 – The children praised Him.
- How will you participate?
