WHAT MOTHERS (WE) SHOULD WANT
SELECTED SCRIPTURES – 5/14/23
Many mothers throughout history have believed in their children and assisted them to greatness. One such mother was Thomas Edison’s Mother.
"Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11,1847 in Milan, Ohio; the seventh and last child of Samuel and Nancy Edison. When Edison was seven his family moved to Port Huron, Michigan. Edison lived here until he struck out on his own at the age of sixteen. Edison had very little formal education as a child, attending school only for a few months. He was taught reading, writing, and arithmetic by his mother, but was always a very curious child and taught himself much by reading on his own. This belief in self-improvement remained throughout his life.

Mothers are known for desiring great things for their children. Some of the mothers found in the Bible teach us some things all of us should desire for our children and grandchildren no matter what their age. Let’s follow their example.
HANNAH WANTED A CHILD THAT WOULD SERVE THE LORD 1 Samuel 1:9-28 (Vss. 9-11, 24-28, 2:11) My Dad had us involved. We involved our children.
We should want children who serve the Lord!
TWO MOTHERS WANTED CHILDREN WHO WOULD LIVE!

As the prophets prayed for new life in dead children, we should pray that spiritually dead children be born again! We want them to live for all eternity! John 3:3-8, 2 Peter 3:8-9
THE CANAANITE WOMAN WANTED HER CHILD TO BE SPIRITUALLY HEALTHY! (The child was demon-possessed.) Matthew 15:21-28
We should want children and grandchildren who are Spiritually healthy! (Not just ones who profess Christ, but who grow in Christ.) 1 Peter 2:1-3, 2 Peter 3:18
LOIS AND EUNICE WANTED THEIR CHILD TO KNOW THE SCRIPTURES! 2 Timothy 1:5, 2 Timothy 3:13-17
We should want children and grandchildren who are saturated with the Word of God. Psalm 119:11
A thought from Pastor Jack: If we want these things in the children of all ages that we love, we must model truth before them and instruct them ourselves! Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in a way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
